UiTM for Non-Bumis...... What do YOU think???

Today I read about a suggestion that 10% position in UiTM be opened for Non-Bumis. Now, isn't that a bit scandalous? It's bound to put a bee in some people's bonnet. Yet, I can't help thinking that there is yet some rasionale behind that suggestion. You say
"We are Malays, therefore we are entitled to special rights!"
I say
"Good for you, but why must we depend on special rights? Why not we beat the Non-Bumis in their field so special rights would be rendered redundant? We need those special rights so bad coz we're so bloody dependant on them. Anyone correct me if you think I'm wrong."
We have reached the point where we will collapse if those rights were revoked. In depending on those rights, we've made a crutch for ourselves, and now, we're scared to walk without the crutches, lest we fall.

P/S: Beat here is meant as defeat, not hit.

I ask you, What are we so afraid of bout having them Non-Bumis in our IPTA? They're good students, so at least some students will follow their example. Either from inspiration or from shame. Either from being friends or rival. I had a Chinese friend in high school. At first we fought each other, but later on, we acknowledged each other and it turned into an intense rivalry. Our rivalry revolved mostly around the Chemistry subject. Usually he would get highest and I below him. When I managed to draw with him, the heat is on. We competed for the title best Chem. We also did study group so that we can benefit from each other. Being the best doesn't mean you know everything and vice versa. That's an example I can pick about ways It might affect students. Heh....

As for lecturers, they might just be relieved enough to get students who for a change do work on time, consult them about studies and relieve their workload, instead of students who constantly ask for time extensions on overdue projects, complains bout the deadlines and on the whole is a pain in the neck. It might also improve their dedication and concentration on teaching. After all, when a Chinese student correct you, you know there's error somewhere, and I bet no lecturer likes to be shown how shallow their knowledge is compared to their students.

You say Malay students are already good?
I say that some of the good ones are arrogant. Which results in the norm of First and Second sem students being 4 pointers, and then dropping steadily.
Just to use an example, I had an acquaintance who is a good student in the First and Second sem. However, in the beginning of the 3rd sem, she got a boyfriend. Her performance dropped till it got to the point where a lecturer called for her and asked her to buck up coz her friends are worried bout her.
Know what she replied?
"I know my level and my friends level, so you don't have to worry."

Guess what. Arrogance. Just because she got good results in the 1st n 2nd sem she started to get a big head. Guess what she got for the 3rd sem?
A result lower than expected. Same level or worse as her friends.
So much for knowing your level eh?

Why do this happens? No competition. Chinese students don't get complacent. Got a 90? Push for 92. Got 92? Push for 94 and so on. This is Chinese way of studies. By the way, I'm talking based on experience with my friends. But I've yet to hear about Chinese students getting bad results. Malay students? Got 90? Ok already la! Next time sure got same also wat?....
Complacency.... Being in the safe zone.... Its as dangerous as being in the danger zone, only a different danger altogether..

I expect to get a lot of flak if anyone happens to read this post.
By the way. I'm a Malay. I'm not denigrating the Malays as a whole. But however, thats what I see. If you think otherwise, give me YOUR examples.

This post is of about my opinion only.
There is no right or wrong. Too Subjective.

i might b too late to express my views. luckily i'm patient enugh to skim thru ur posts. i'm not dissapointed :)

its an interesting subject n issue which i used to discuss wif my chinese fren, who's kinda open minded.

uitm shud b opened to non bumis in order to heat up the ring n give a booze to the bumi's who ve bin resting in their laurels for too long. imagine, if the non bumi's are to get the same advantages as the bumi's, the bumi's ve to fight to earn their win. now, all they do is sit, n wait. n work, study offer, loans everything will come flying down the door.

but, ve u eva wonder, wif so many advantages, y the bumi's has neva risen n be more independent n realible n rich?? y does all these descriptions fit the non bumi's although they dun get any advantages that the bumi's having??

the stalker :)
